Research on $99musicvideos

$99dollermusicvideos is a you tube channel where it has channels, playlists, new music videos and a section where people can discuss and share the opinions it allows up and coming artist to raise awareness to the audience. The target audience is aimed at teenagers from 13-19 also the have no aimed races they aim at all races.

There ethos is to believe in collaboration between the filmmakers and the artist/band also there giving a global platform to low-fi  and cutting edge videos and the budget is made  at $99 or less.

The types of music they do are modern day music because it's teenagers that are going to be watching the up and coming artists. The labels that will appear on their you tube channel will be independent and the genres of music that will appear on their channel will be various genres because everyone has different music taste other music.

The relationship between the filmmakers and the music acts has is very organised because it's the filmmakers that do a bigger percentage of the work because it's the filmmakers that have got to go with the music artist to all the different location if it's needed even if it wasn't then they would still have a bigger percentage than the music act. With me saying that the music acts still have a big part because it's the music acts that have the the various locations in their heads thinking where it's going to be the best place to set the scene. They work together by blending their ideas together the roles of the music act is to express their feelings and the role of the filmmakers is to make the music video look fantastic with the technique of camera language with the limited things that's been handed to them for example an artist has idea and they have locations to set it in their head and then they go to the locations and this is where the filmmaker comes in because it's the filmmakers that film the videos from different angles.

The way the channel interacts with the audience is by them promoting there music and then the audience scrolls through the channels exploring different types of music videos in the playlists. Then they will share the music videos and it goes on from there and the music act get a bit of acknowledgement.

I do think that you can make a professional music video for $99 because you'll have to make it look as professional as you can with the little equipment you have then make it look professional when editing it. Although that's been said I don't think that you can make a professional music video for $99 because the equipment you might need might be expensive and you might want to get all different types of props and locations.

Potential Artist

Shuges: "My Time"

I would like to use this music video for my media project because I think that I can get a lot of ideas from this artist also I can find this song easy to lip-synch.

Melvillous - "Embracing Grace"

I would like to use this music video for my media project because I feel like this song is really humble and I feel like I can learn these lyrics quite quickly because I already know the song.

Theroy Hazit - I just wanna go home"

I chose this music video because I feel that I could use this soulful song to my advantage of because it's a song that has a smooth beat and it's more relaxed than the other two videos that I've chosen.

Dancing in the distraction factory: music television & popular culture

Andrew Goodwin is a college professor that wrote a well known book called "Dancing In The Distraction". This book was publish in 1992 and his theory was about how the song and the visuals were linked in a music video.

Illustrating

Illustrating music videos are where the music video directly corresponds to the lyrics for example Tupac - Dear Mama
I chose this example because it shows a clear example of an illustrating music video. Tupac -   Dear Mama is a clear example because the song corresponds with the lyrics. An example  of this is at  02:04 seconds where he says "I moved out started really hangin' I needed my own money so I started slangin'." This shows an imitation of him  selling drugs. Another example of this is at 00:04 second it shows his mum in jail pregnant with him.

Amplifying

An amplifying music video is a music video that is used to enhance the style & mood of the song.

The reason why I chose Sam Smith - Stay With Me  is because it's an uncomplicated example of an amplifying music video. Throughout the song the song is quite slow and the mood on his face shows that he's not very happy. At 00:56 seconds his face looks very emotional like he's about to cry or jump off a cliff. At 01:23 seconds it shows another example of the song because the song is slow therefore he's walking at a slow pace.

Contradicting

A contradicting music video is a music video that deliberately goes against the lyrics and mood or the song.

I chose Jessie J - Price tag because it's a contradicting video and I will back my point up by giving an example from the music video. At 01:13 seconds she's singing the chores saying "it's not about the money". Yet she has a money tree above her also she has gold necklace and rings on her fingers this could be visuals contradicting the lyrics.

Voyeurism

Voyeurism music videos are music videos where it shows females as a piece of meat as an object. Voyeurism is to get pleasure from the viewing of something.

I chose Benny Benassi 'Satisfaction' this music    video was chosen because it's conspicuous that it   shows females in a sexual way. At 01:41 seconds it shows a woman using construction equipment while wearing a bikini the heavy duty breaker is a symbol of a penis getting pushed into a hole and this is a clear example to back up Goodwin's theory.

Iconography

An iconography video is a video where you see little hints that tell you it's that type of genre. For example you might see expensive jewelry and watches and urban looking clothes this would signify a Hip Hop music video.

I chose DJ Khaled - They Don't Love You No More ft Jay Z, Meek Mill, Rick Ross and French Montana because it's a straightforward example of a iconography at 01:42 seconds there standing on so type of ferry and they're wearing urban clothes and they're wearing watches and also chains these a two fashionable icons in this genre which is why it is easy to tell the is the genre of Hip Hop. At 01:56 seconds you see bottles of expensive alcohol. At 02:05 seconds you see a basket baller shooting hoops which is again another fashionable icon of this genre.

Star persona

A star persona is about how the music artist represents themselves to the audience also it can show a different side of the artist that not everybody is used to or maybe have seen before. So the majority of the time it comes to a shock to the audience and you might ask yourself "what happened?"

I chose Mike WiLL - Made It - 23 ft Miley Cyrus, Wiz Khalifa and Juicy J because it's a simple and plain example of star persona.

At 00;40 seconds Miley is smoking a blunt which probably shocked the audience a bit or they'd be shaking their heads and sighing.

At 01:08 seconds hardly wearing any clothes in these two examples it's showing how she's change from being a Disney childhood pop star to well I can't really find words to describe her.

Intertextual

Intertextual is where the they take certain scenes from a film and they put it in with the film that's in the soundtrack.

I chose this Eric B & Rakim - Know The Ledge because it's a good example for intertexual music videos. The film is called "Juice" and  throughout the music video Rakim is at certain places of the film. At 00:31 seconds it show a scene where Tupac is in an argument with a gang. At 2:01 seconds one of the characters called Quincy at a party. At 00:19 seconds it shows a scene where the friends are playing basketball.

Music Video techniques

Large Number of Cuts

A large number of cuts is a technique used to create an effect where the video cuts faster if it's a fast song or cuts slower it's a slow song.

Good Example

Nas "The Don" is a great example of large number of cut because nearly every few seconds the song changes because it's a fast paced song. So Nas want to create a video that gets his audience jumping in the air this explains why the large number of cuts was successful, at 02:08 seconds it shows the audience jumping in the air. The music video also shows that at 00:35 seconds there's designer clothes and at 00:36 seconds it shows expensive glasses. This video is basically showing the audience that it's very energetic. For example at 01:17 seconds it shows to cuts one where Nas is hanging with his crew then at 00:18 seconds he's in a car reading a new paper.

The large number of cuts is used in this music video because Nas wanted to create a music video that  addressed himself as the street poet to the audience this video explains how he's now living luxurious.

This is an advantage for me because it kept me occupied because of the pace of the cuts. This video is for entertainment to celebrate the "Life Is Good" album.

This music video represents Nas by the life that he's living now he's wearing expensive designer clothes, eating expensive food and drinking expensive wine and also he's getting drove around in an expensive car. Also he's representing New York City which is the city he grew up in and he's representing Def Jam which is the label he's signed to.This video also shows he's a creative person by  structuring the whole video together.

Bad Example

Alicia Keys "Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart" is a poor example for the large number of cuts technique because since the song is quite slow there aren't as many cuts.

At 00:47 seconds it shows Alicia Keys on her bed laying down slowing get up within the 7 seconds passing by until it reaches 00:53 seconds for the video to cut to the next scene where it shows a comic strip the first half shows her phone on the silk blanket and the second half of her eyes.

The large amount of cuts technique is used here because Alicia Keys was trying to show she has a broken heart and the reason why the tempo of the song is so slow is because she's upset trying to get over the fact that her lover and her broke up and she's upset.

This is a impact on me because I've known people that have had there hearts broken by other people so this video for me and for anyone else is sad

This music video represents Alicia Keys by expressing how she feels and she as well is also representing her city which is also New York City. The message of the video is that you eventually get over your break ups.

Special effects

Special effects are when they add animation, graphics or CGI to the music videos to make the music video look more exciting or dramatic.

Good Example

Joey Bada$$ "Christ Conscious" is an awesome example for special effects because at 00:13 seconds if you look carefully you can see the pulse of the beat.  At 00:59 to 01:01 seconds you see his eye and then it takes you to his brain and the takes you out again. At 01:35 seconds it shows a visual transparent mirror that looks kind of like a hologram. Then at 01:45 second from his hand it takes you to his liver and takes you back takes you back out again.

The special effects technique is used in the Christ Conscious music video because to show to the audience that he's started thinking in the corridors of his own brain and then near the end it's like he's ascending to the next level.

The technique is this music video is successful because the special effects take the music video to another level.

The Joey Bada$$ "Christ Conscious" is an awesome choice for special effects because when I first watch it my first thoughts were that's freaky with a mix of cool my mind was on another level.

This music video represents Joey Bada$$ because it indicates  that he's got a very creative mind it shows that the special effects were well thought out.

Bad Example

Michael Jackson "Blame it on the boogie" is a  awful example of special effects because the technology back in the 1978 which was when they didn't have the technology as advanced as today's modern technology.

At 00:14 seconds Michael Jackson is dancing and when he moves the special effects are all colorful.

The special effects technique in this music video are used to jazz up the video.

From my perspective if I grew up in the late 70's the disco era those special effects would be really cool but in modern day where technology is change almost everyday this video would seem accent and therefore I think the special effects are awful.

The Jackson 5 "Blame it on the boogie" the music video represents the Jackson 5 brothers as a happy bunch of people that are just dancing and they can't stop because of the catchy song.

Cutting To The Beat

Cutting to the beat is when each time there a beat the scene changes.

Good Example

Chris Brown "With You" is a acceptable example for cutting to the beat because at 00:13 seconds Chris Brown is wearing a hoody and a black hat then when the next beat drops is switches to another scene.

The cutting to the beat technique is used in this music video because Chris Brown is thinking about the girls he loves.

This technique is useful because it helps the you can keep up with the beat from the precise pace of cuts.

For me I like this music video because Chris Brown is one of the singers/rappers that I grew up listening to and I remember seeing this video during my childhood.

Chris Brown is representing himself by showing us as the audience his personality.

Bad Example

LMFAO "Party Rock Anthem" is a a awful example of the cutting to the beat technique because it's not even on the same time as the beat with it cuts to the next scene.

For example at 03:12 seconds you see LMFAO there both dancing but there not dancing to there not dancing at the same time of the beat.

This technique is unsuccessful for this music video because the cut doesn't cut when it's suppose to.

Although I've said that I do like this music video just because it's catchy.

LMFAO are representing themselves by showing that they just party animals.

Varied camera language

Varied camera language is where the music artist is using diverse angles, movement and shot types.

Good Example

Joey Bada$$ "From the tombs" is a decent example because at 00:49 seconds it shows him on basketball hoop form a low angle. also at 01:21 seconds it shows he jumping up to climb up the hoop and the camera is moving as he's jumping.

The varied camera language technique is used in this video because it makes the video a little more interesting.

This successful because the way they've used the camera is really good.

In my own opinion I like the video because of the way it's set up I like the way they've made it look 3D I think it's also authentic.

Joey Bada$$ is representing his city which is Brooklyn where he was raised.

Bad Example

Michael Jackson "The Way You Make Me Feel" isn't such a good example because at 01:41 seconds it shows a long shot of Michael Jackson just standing there and the camera language is really basic and it's not really that interesting.

This technique is used in this music video because he's trying to explain to this girl how she makes him feel.

This technique is unsuccessful because I don't think it adds any effect to the music video.

I like this song because it's one of my favorite songs from Michael Jackson.

This represents Michael because it's showing another side of his personality.

Green screen

Green screen is where your usually stand behind green screen which is a green background and you can make something look really realistic in the song.

Good Example

Katy Perry "Roar" is a good example because at 00:10 seconds Katy Perry is in a jungle type location and you can see the broken plane and the explosion. At 01:19 seconds she looks into the water and she see the reflection on a tiger.

Green screen is used is the music video because it makes her look like the queen of the jungle.

This music video is successful because the green screen is used very well.

I don't particularly like this video it's catchy but I  don't like that much.

Katy is representing herself in this video, this video is showing the audience that see got a very creative mind.

Bad Example

Eminem ft Lil Wayne "No Love" at 00:44 seconds is a bad example because the background looks plain and basic.

Green screen is used in this specific video because to make the video look a bit more effective.

The green screen in this music video is unsuccessful because it looks like they didn't put that much effort into the music video.

I'm not a big Lil Wayne so this song isn't really a good song to me.

Lil Wayne and Eminem is representing  people that are struggling with life.

Lip-synching

Lip synching is when your miming the lyrics to a song.

Beyonce' "Crazy in love" is a good example because at 00:27 to 00:41 seconds it shows her dancing a lot and she's probably lip synching because she's dancing a lot.

Lip-synching is used in this video because she's doing a lot of dancing so I don't think she would sing every single lyric of the song.

This technique is successful because it looks believable that she sang the whole song.

For me this is another childhood music video that I grew up listening to so I like this song.

Beyonce' is representing jay z because he's featured in her song.

Bad example

Drake "Tuesday"  is a bad example for the lip-syching because throughout the whole music video he's lip synching someone else lyrics.

Lip synching is used in this video because drake couldn't be asked to rap/sing his own lyrics.

The lip synching technique is used unsuccessfully as the video bores me

My personal appearance is that this video is rubbish it doesn't interest me at all.

 Drake is representing ilovemakonnen.

Styles and Conventions Of Music Videos

Genre video

A genre video is a video that uses conventions of the particular music genre it is promoting. For example a hip-hop video would have the cast dressed in baggy jeans, mesh jersey shirts and a bandanna. An example of a genre video is "My Life" by Slaughterhouse. This is shown at 2:35 seconds when Crooked I is shown wearing a hoody and a "Long Beach" baseball cap with huge chains around his neck. This is conventional of the Hip-Hop genre as the image makes him look tough and successful.

The institution would use this type of video because it appeals to a young black audience because it shows the flashy lifestyle of Hip-Hop artists. This music video would be beneficial for Shady Records because the music artists are making money of the music video.

In Slaughterhouse "My Life" at 02:12 the artist Crooked I has got a rusty old car and he transforms that rusty old car to a stylish expensive car and also his clothes change in the same way. Also at 02:25 it shows Crooked I and another rapper called Royce Da 5'9 in an expensive car. This signifies  a typical style of the Hip-Hop genre because you see how you can be from somebody that appears to be poor to someone that's rich and also the fact that you can bi in a expensive car with your friends. That shows you can achieve great things.

I would use this particular style because there's a huge audience these days that like listening to Hip-Hop so I would think this would be a good choice because it's the most played genre on media sectors like TV and Youtube.

Genre Subverting Video

The definition of  Genre Subverting videos is a genre that breaks the conventional rules for example in a dance song you'd expect to see would be set in a club with flashing lights, girls in bikinis also it would be colorful etc... but in genre subverting video the conventions are sometimes a little or completely different.

For example in Eminem "Without Me" at 02:00 seconds you see Eminem dressed up as Elvis taking a joke out of him, this is an example of genre subverting because usually you wouldn't see a music artists taking the genre of Hip-Hop for example seriously.

This is a benefit for the audience because at 02:57 seconds Eminem is bold doing yoga and eating a banana this signifies comedy. At 04:06 Eminem is dressed up as Osama bin laden is an abandoned place and on the left you see ENN instead of CNN. This is beneficial for the audience because Eminem is entertaining his audience by making them laugh and keeping them amused. So the audience soon become well known with the codes and conventions of genre subverting and consequently the audience feel the can relate.

The benefits for the Shady Records because the CEO of Shady Records is Eminem so Eminem is getting more money of his record label because he owns the record label.

This style of music could be useful for me because I can get the audience laughing and to keep the audience entertained.and I might want to break the rules in terms of conventions because I might want my music video to be a little bit different to what people might expect in an average music video.

Performance

The definition of performance is where the music artist will perform live but it will be recorded live this is called as live. The conventions you'd see would be the artist of course and the back singers and the musicians playing there instrument.

At 01:05 seconds Alicia Keys is performing "This girls on fire" on stage with an audience filming her and singing the lyrics to her song. This is a demonstration of the performance category.

At 02:18 seconds Alicia Keys is singing and the camera is behind her making look like she's singing her heart out. This signifies a powerful soul another convention of performance. This is beneficial for the audience because the audience can see their favorite music artists on stage that are performing on stage.

This is beneficial for Columbia records because Alicia Keys promotes the music so that Alicia Keys makes money off the concerts and festivals and Columbia make money of Alicia Keys. They also make money off the music video as well.

This could potentially be a good idea for my music video because I could physically interact with my audience.

Narrative

A narrative music video is when the video tells a story. It can tell a story that's linked to the song or it can tell completely different story.

The video for John Newman "Love Me Again" tells the story of two people that were in a relationship and they want to try again. The video is related to the song
because John Newman and there people in the video are describing the same story.

At 02:44 seconds the ex couple get back together this is beneficial for the audience because the audience watching this music video might feel that that can relate to it.

Universal have a benefit because it's universal that are getting back money from the John Newman song "Can you love me again" music video.

I would choose this style because I would like to have a story line in my music video that everyone can easily follow so they might be able to understand it better because there might be people that are going through the same thing.

Animation

An animation music video is either a video that is in a cartoon form or a video that is formed in stop animation those are the conventions and styles of Animation.

At 00:29 seconds Kanye West in the form of a cartoon teddy bear with a chain on running because  his going to be late this is an example of Animation.

At 01:22 the scene shows Kanye West running in the rain and there's a cloud floating after him looking ready to eat him. This signifies him trying to run away from the dark days approaching up on him but it doesn't work but eventually it does get better. This is beneficial for the audience because it's n the title of the song "Good Morning" there video shows a bad situation to a good situation.

Benefits for the Good Music record label is that when Kanye Wests "Good Morning" music video gets put out it gets promoted. However Good Music can decrease the risk of not becoming successful by using the codes and conventions of a Animation to appeal to their target audience and an example of this is through out the whole music video where it's all cartoon. This signifies a style of Animation.

This style could useful for my music video because I might want to add animation or stop animation to my music video just to made the video look a little I might want to make my video look cartoon or stop animation because it it'll look unique.

Interpretive

A interpretive music video is where by the video fits with the tempo of the music video. The conventions and style that are in interpretive are when someone says something it appears in the video the words will appear at the same time this is definition of interpretive.

Take Kanye West "Good Life" Ft T-Pain for example. At 02:26 seconds Kanye West is saying "I GOTTA SHINE" and as he's saying the lyrics the words appear as well. This is good for the interpretive category. At 00:04 Kanye West is grafting good life as T-pain is singing the chores at the beginning of the song.

This is beneficial for the audience because at 03:13 seconds it shows the scene of Kanye splashing cash. This is beneficial for the audience because it shows that the audience can recognize it easily. Therefore the audience are more able to understand it more.

This can be a benefit to the Good Music Record label because the Good Music record label have the choice the increase the risk being successful or being unsuccessful so that's why Kanye West makes sure that his music video is impeccable.

I could use the interpretive style for my music video because I might make the music video more colorful.

Impressionist

An impressionist is where the imagery that matches mood and pieces of the mood of the song but not necessarily the lyrics there's no real story or performance through out the music video.

Eminem "Rap God"is a good example for the impressionist style because through out the music video is going at a fast paced to go along with the mood. At 01:16 seconds and for few number of shots Eminem is wearing a suit.

This music video is a beneficial to the audience because it makes the audience feel excited if they see this music video because it's Eminem the so called  rap god it'll cause a buzz on the social networks.

This is a benefit for the Shady Records Labels because since it creates a buzz on the social networks more people want to watch the video it can get more likes and views which will make more money.

Surreal/Abstract

Surreal/Abstract music videos are usually the music videos that will leave your brain confused. Also they usually leave you asking yourself what on earth am I watching or it'll leave you asking yourself  what on earth did I just watch. The conventions that music artists would usually use would be stuff like wired clothing, locations, special effects so on.

For example Connan Mockasin "Forever Dolphin Love"  which is a really weird music video because at 00;40 seconds this image shows him standing still it looks kind of creepy for a while but the whole image looks really wired because of the clothing that I can't even describe and the face paint. This is a good example of Surreal/Abstract.

At 02:36 seconds it's a benefit for the audience because it keeps the audience wondering whats going to happen next as it's so weird.

This is a positive impact for the Phantasy Record Label because he got so many likes of the audience that watched the music video and it was so weird.

I would use the Surreal/Abstract style because I would want to wonder what on earth they're watching and why they're watching it.

Pastiche/Homage

A pastiche/homage music video is where the video imitates certain features from another media text.

Lil Wayne "6 foot 7 is an example of homage because at 01:11 seconds the scene shows Lil Wayne in a car that's flipping over similar to the inception film at that particular scene.

This is a good example of how homage works and how it can imitate other media texts. So at 00:10 seconds it imitates from another scene from inception when Lil Wayne is getting push into a bath to wake him up from his dream. This is beneficial because they can see the resemblance from this music video and the inception movie.

The reason why it's beneficial for the institution is because Lil Wayne is getting some ideas of the inception film so the institution will give him more money because he's getting ideas from a famous film.

I could use the homage because if I was to get ideas of a film then people would understand where I got my ideas and inspiration from.

Parody

A parody is fan based music video that takes the mick out of a official music video and the conventions you'll see are people making up their own lyrics music videos but the singer or rapper are are taking the mick.

Ariana Grande ft Iggy Azalea "Problem" is a good example at 00:01 straight a way it looks almost like the original music video. I explain my point by saying the woman playing as Ariana Grande is wearing the same clothes as her but in the people in the background are wearing different clothes these two example signify that this is parody.

At 00: 05 seconds there's a male instead of a female. This is beneficial for the audience because it's humorous to watch. For example at 00:56 seconds shows a person playing the role as Big Sean and the person playing as Ariana Grande say "Big Sean you need to start flossin'"this  is also humorous to watch as they make their own lyrics.

The Institution wouldn't get paid as much because it's not a official video by a real music artist. Although they will still get paid by the amount of likes on the music video so this is beneficial because even if it's a parody the institution is still making money.

I would use the parody style because I'd want to take the mick out of music artists just for fun to keep the young teenagers and adults entertained.

Reference

A reference is a style that takes out certain scenes out the moving and then goes back to the music video again and through out the music video.

The Alicia Keys Ft Kendrick Lamar "It's On Again" is a good example of what I'm saying because at 00: 20 seconds it shows you a scene of The Amazing Spider-Man film then it goes back to the music video then at 01:33 seconds it flicks back to a scene of the film where Spider-Man's on a police car in the street.

This is an excellent example for the audience because it shows parts of the film in a sense it advertises the film to make the audience go and see it in a nutshell it's good because the artist are advertising a really awesome film.

This is beneficial because it's Columbia records that's getting paid of the amount of likes that are shown for this music video and it will get even more links because there show a famous film.

Purpose Of Music Videos

Artist make music video's for a number of reasons.

Promote new music releases.

Artists promote their new music releases by making music videos that go with the song. They do this to get publicity  so they can be well known by the audience also they can make publicity so they can be identified worldwide. An example of this is 50 Cent this single was released from the album "In Da Club" which created a major hype. This single also raised awareness through mainstream and the audience and this single was released when 50 Cent was signed to "Shady Records".

To create a visual representation of the artist

David Guetta "Where them Girls At" is a good example of a visual representation of the artist because David Guetta is seen throughout the music video although he's not actually performing. The artists brand is enlarged by the song because it's a well know single on the radio and on the music channels. This song communicates the energy it's outdoors and it's sunny so the vibe that you would get is a summer vibe. So David Guetta song style would address him as a summer anthem type of person. David Guetta has reinvented himself as a a party rocking artist.

Extend the play ability and provide additional income from the song

The Michael Jackson "Thriller" song is for a good example for extending the play ability because even though Micheal Jackson isn't alive the song stills gets played and so the song is still memorable to the public eye because people still play the song on Halloween to set the spooky and scary scene or would at least to think about the song at or near halloween. For example from 02:15 seconds to 03:40 although it's a music video they've made it look like a movie at certain parts of the music video would fit the halloween theme. The royalty payments from the music channels would benefit this song because channels would usually play this song near halloween. Michael Jackson also has a movie called "The Making of Thriller" so also he would get money from that too.

Synergy

This music video would be good for synergy because it links in with other media sectors by being a music video that has characters from different films and also music artists. Increase the awareness for the institution by being played so many times on the TV.. It also introduces artists to new sectors of the industry. Also the industry would of made a lot of money of this video because when this song was a hit single it got a lot of play on the TV. Also it has iconic characters from films for example in the music video you will see a character from Despicable Me and it also has music artists in it for example Tyler the Creator so it will get more views.

To be a form of art in itself

Artists sometimes create forms of art in itself for example the Lil Jon "Turn Down For What" is a very strange and weird video so it's more likely that this video going to be very memorable video and the reason why it's memorable is because you see a guy at the beginning of the video smashing his body though a flat. It's the music industry and the artist probably made a lot of money because this song is played in tv a lot of times and also on the radio and possibly in night clubs too. This song got a lot of likes and comments on you tube

Research On Music Videos

Social Media

Social Media is the term used for various social networks which connect friends, businesses and organizations with each other. Such examples of this would be Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. You can use social network sites to talk to friends, post video/pictures and you can go and explore and communicate with people with the same interests as you. Social media also allows you to keep you up to date with the news. Music Artists also use social media to promote their work by posting music videos on social media websites. This advertises their music videos in order to attract more people, and build a wider audience. This is done where by fans of various music artists view music videos and share these videos on websites such as( Facebook ,Twitter and Youtube, Gmail, )with their social media friends this is an advantage for the artist as it  gains  them more fans. The downside of  social media for a music artist is that if a music video is not liked this unpopularity is very visible and very easy to see minimum likes / minimum views which naturally effects the credibility for that particular artist.

Social media is an advantage for the institution because the record label want to boost their sales and make money. It is a really good way for unknown artists to become more well known cheaply,  and they make their money by taking a percentage of the artist that are doing interviews to sell their music. Social media is an advantage for the distributor because for the audience they can keep there consumers interested. Social media is a disadvantage for the distributor because if they don't keep there consumers interested then the artist will lose then fans won't buy the artist and if the artist isn't making money then the distributor won't make money. Social Media will have a positive impact for the audience because when the audience like they will like the video, share it and then tell the friends about the video. A disadvantage for Social Media is that for the if the audience don't like the video then they won't like it and then they won't post it and they won't tell their friends about the music video.

Mainstream TV

The following channels on Mainstream TV - BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and Sky 1 are channels that are available to watch. An example for a mainstream TV channel is One show on BBC 1 and if the artist is on the TV show then it might help the record label because if the record label put the product onto the One show the product gets shown to a broader audience.

A disadvantage for the Mainstream TV is that the audience might not like the music video so the record label wouldn't get money because the artist wouldn't be making money. A advantage for Mainstream TV for the distributor because they can put out the artists music on national television.

Mainstream TV is a reliable media tool for a music distributor as it has the potential to reach audiences in their millions worldwide. Naturally this would be lucrative and beneficial to the record label.

A disadvantage for Mainstream TV is that for the distributor if the distributor doesn't put the music video on Mainstream TV people won't hear about the music video. If the music artists music video isn't getting shown then the distributor isn't using the media tool that has been given to them.

Mainstream TV is advantage for the audience because they get to it's the audience that are watching the artists music video and if the music artists feels that they can identify themselves with the audience then the audience will feel that they can relate themselves to the music artist.

Mainstream TV is disadvantage for the audience because if the audience feel that they can't relate with the music artist then the audience won't feel like the there not relating to the music artist then the audience lose interest in the music artist.

Mainstream TV is advantage for the music artist because their music video is getting shown to as many place as possible through the distributor so the music artist is getting more people attention and that attention from people turn into fans so the music artist is gaining more fans.

The Mainstream TV is disadvantage for the music artist because the music artist want to show their music videos for publicity otherwise the artist gets dropped from the record label.

Streaming Websites have a disadvantage  on the record label because there might be explicit language. Streaming videos have an advantage for the distributor because their promoting the music video to try and get as many views as possible. Streaming videos should have a disadvantage for the distributor because if the distributor is costing the music artist a lot of money and you can stream it on youtube for free then the distributor loses business.
